What if all of life is exactly how it should be?
Not long ago, I found myself asking the wrong questions. My brain did what it is designed to do. It went to work searching for supporting evidence and answers to the questions I presented it with. Our brains will do anything we assign them to do. It is no surprise that what my mind found were uninspiring and disempowering answers. My dead-end questions were not leading me to my desired results.
Until one day, a stranger presented me with a different thought to ponder. “What if everything in your life is exactly how it should be?” she asked. One might consider this question of higher quality, which sent my brain searching for higher quality answers and related evidence to support it.
In Search of Supporting Evidence
Shortly after she posed this question, I sat in silence and listened to my breath’s rhythm. Each cycle of breath moved exactly how it is designed to do. My mind observed the naturalness of each expanding inhalation and exhalation. The subtly of the breath works without regulation to contract the diaphragm and inflate the lungs. This gentle movement softly exerts pressure on the body’s internal organs, stimulating their actions and encouraging normal functioning. The motion reverses on an exhalation, and the body’s waste is expelled in the form of carbon dioxide. The breath gives and sustains all of life without direction.
Then my mind went from the breath to other forms sustained by this vital life force- who selflessly work to do exactly what they are intended to do. Like the grizzly bear who cares for plant life by working as a forester. They carry out projects that monitor and conserve their surrounding habitat. This omnivorous mammal looks for littered carcasses by utilizing their intelligence and keen senses of smell, sight, and hearing. Once found, the grizzly drags each carcass across the soil to enrich and sustain future plant growth. Our forests would not be as tidy or flourish without these extraordinary creatures.
What If We All Have A Unique Role?
Perhaps each living and non-living thing may exist with a uniquely special role to play within the environment? Like the beavers who serve as dam engineers working to guarantee each barrier’s safety. These woodland creatures use their broad, stabilizing tails and thick waterproof fur to skillfully plan and construct barricades that hold back excessive water streams from flooding onto land. Or like the role of the owl who voluntarily assists with pest control. They successfully exterminate their prey using their binocular vision, sharp talons, and silent flight. The contributions of these animals work to sustain and advance the ecosystem of which they are apart. These animals know their purpose and fulfill their roles precisely as they were designed to do.
Maybe the astounding 1 in 4 trillion odds of being born into this world was not random at all? Conceivably, humans, and all things, are born with an unrepeatable and internal fingerprint, known as the soul. Just like the breath working to sustain life; the soul also has a purpose it longs to fulfill. It possesses different capacities, talents, and challenges to overcome. The soul may work to develop its roots before it can thrive. Just like the 5-years of extensive labor it takes bamboo to establish its root system before it can break though the soil and grow at an astounding rate.
Question Everything
What if I am who I am, know who I know, and experience all that I do because this is exactly how it was always supposed to be? This question helped my mind find enough supporting evidence within my surrounding environment to make it credible that everything in my life, and all of life, is exactly how it is meant to be. The moments I question my life may also be windows of opportunity to discover my own unique purpose. I could use my own struggles to move closer to a more desired destination where I can learn, grow, and contribute to the greater good.
What started as a question led me to this answer: Low-quality questions and default thinking do not increase my awareness of aspects of the world I otherwise may not have considered. I continue to look into my mind to discover the questions I ask myself each day. Ask high-quality questions, and you will get high-quality answers. I can then decide the topics I want to assign to my brain and those I wish to dispose of. I challenge you to consider doing the same.
Contemplation Points
- What if everything in your life is exactly as it should be?
- Would assigning this question to your brain give you answers that change how you think, feel, and do for the better?
