Walls

by Kristin

We’ve forgotten the power of our inner bodies.

How they work to fulfill their roles without placing conditions upon us or asking for anything in return. How their innate intelligence is like a family working as one. They do not refer to one system as more important than another. No organ holds higher value. All cells are equal. To live, they need each other.

We’ve forgotten that within our bodies, lies the answer to the secret we spend lifetimes searching for. They know this secret is no secret at all. It’s just that we’ve forgotten that we hold enough love inside of us to bring others into theirs. This love is big enough to fill the entire sky with emanate light and make the whole world go round.

This is who we are.

But we’ve forgotten that to have a body is a gift. We can’t remember what it feels like to receive its unbound love. And so, we withhold this love from ourselves and each other.

In our confusion, we’ve forgotten that we too are a part of a unified system that must work together to keep the world spinning round. And how we each agreed to fulfill an important role before taking human form. But we are not the roles we play. It’s just that each role is vital and necessary for the proper functioning of this world that needs our love and light.

Somewhere along the way we lost our guiding light and forgot what we came here to do. Disoriented and confused, worry and fear began to enter our cells and disrupted our flow of love. So instead of fulfilling their primary roles, our bodies began to build walls around this unbound love to protect it.

What our bodies forgot, is that love needs no protection. Love is an infinite source that cannot be penetrated or destroyed. It asks nothing of us, including our protection.

But our inner panic to once again find stability within our cells made us forget love’s power. And so, new walls form. What was once spacious and free, slowly transforms into confining walls held together by the limitations we’ve placed upon ourselves and each other.

No longer can anger, greed, and shame effortlessly pass through our bodies. There are too many walls. With nowhere to go, they too fill our cells and cause tension to grow from within.

What was once a harmonious system, turns into an inner war that works tirelessly to put up tall, thick walls to wrongly protect us from the endless stream of intrusive thinking that our minds transfer into our bodies and uproot feelings of unrest and despair.

Our bodies brace against these inner structures that cause us to recoil rather than open to life. This way of living becomes dark and exhausting. But we don’t know we are the cause of our own suffering because we’ve forgotten what it feels like to feel at home in our bodies, and our bodies have forgotten what it feels like to have an open heart. They can’t remember the soothing rhythm that our hearts played before it began to erratically pump faster in preparation to flee from a danger that didn’t exist.

Our hearts are too busy to open up to love. Nor is there time for our spacious lungs to fill completely with vital oxygen to nourish our cells. There’s no time to sit still and untangle the threatening bundle of thoughts from our minds. They’re too busy attaching themselves to another belief that clouds our knowing of who we are.

Our perception of the world is now hazy. We’ve forgotten what it’s like to see clearly. We can’t see who we are.

And so, we raise our fists and blame the outside world for our discomfort because we don’t know another way to be. We’ve forgotten our power and fail to realize that every time we point a finger we give our power away and another wall forms.

And all of these walls block us from remembering that our power is restored when we put our fists down and go within. This is how we dismantle the walls that disrupt our natural flow of love and light.

But we’ve forgotten.

So our bodies brace and wait to build another wall. They listen closely to the stories that circulate within our minds about our grievances and our fears that disconnect us from who we all are.

With each mistruth, our unified system separates and forgets the very purpose it agreed to perform before it took human form. Our bodies work tirelessly to build wall upon wall in their fight against anyone and anything that may steal our peace. But our peace cannot be taken. It is a part of who we are.

Tell me then, how do we remember who we are when we’ve become so disconnected from this knowing?

To know this, we must first know what we are not.

We are not the things we fight against in which we unknowingly become. We are not the war. We are not our worries or our fears. We are not our judgements or the bundle of thoughts that uproot the array of emotions that are also not who we are. We are not the story that we are not enough. We are not our identities or our bodies. We are not the walls that separate us from the whole.

Tell me then, who are we when our bodies leave this earth and all of these structures come tumbling down?

Well, we are who we’ve always been and always will be. We are more than what our five senses can perceive. We are a part of a bigger picture that is unified and unburdened by the mental constructs we’ve built around ourselves. We are cells of vibrating light that dance to the source of this greater vision and are connected by its light. We are more than what words can describe because words are limiting and what we are is limitless. This is what love is and love guides us back to who we are.

Rather than use a bundle of thoughts to try and make sense of who we are, why not close our eyes and take a look inside. There’s no need to fear. The structures we’ve built within us remain powerless as long as we remember they are not who we are. We can even use our power to tear them all down if we choose.

So I close my eyes and feel my heart pumping. I feel my lungs effortlessly expand and contract as they work to expel my tension and nourish my cells. I feel these cells vibrate with life throughout my entire body. I trust that the systems of my body know exactly what to do, but only if I surrender and let them.

I release my control and my tension. I stop all the doing. I settle into the steadiness and silence from within me. I trust that I am safe and I let each story pass through my mind without taking hold.

I let go of the sense making. I already have everything I need.

As my heart slows and my lungs fill completely, my cells begin to release the worry and the fear that they’ve carried around for too long. I feel them release their burdens and return to love and light.

And if I listen and let go long enough, I will once again feel these cells dance and circulate from within me. Their love will bring me into mine, and each time I touch this love, I will be reminded of who I am.

And each time I remember who I am, another wall falls.
